A New Tool for Exploring the History of American Women's Fertility Outcomes and Behaviors: The Integrated Fertility Survey Series

This poster describes progress on the development of the Integrated Fertility Survey Series (IFSS) developed jointly by the Population Studies Center and the Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research at the University of Michigan. The project is designed to harmonize data from 10 surveys of the fertility outcomes and behaviors of American women conducted from 1955 to 2003. The data sources include two Growth of American Families surveys, two National Fertility Surveys, and the 6 cycles of the National Survey of Family Growth. The poster will describe progress to date on the tools developed to help analysts select variables across the 10 surveys and to create coherent and well documented analytic files. Information about the next stages in the project, including the projected data harmonization and consistent weighting, standardization, and imputation will also be provided.
